Garage Doors are one of the most important choices in home design today. Garage Doors are a big purchase. So if you are looking to buy them you better understand what you are looking for. They affect the look of your home. They also can affect the security of your home. If plan to sell your home they can even affect your ability to sell your it.
In todays homes where the maximizing of space is of the utmost importance the garage is no longer a place relegated for forgotten storage. The modern garage has a number of roles - everything from workshop to car maintenance. But temperature control - expected and taken for granted in our homes - has rarely kept pace in this additional space. And the result is often an uncomfortable place that is vulnerable to all weather conditions; certainly not conducive to an effective work environment. Luckily with an efficient and safe garage heater you can utilize this space year round and comfortably complete any projects at hand.
Now look at the history of these useful doors. The history of garage doors is story as well. The first garage doors were barn doors. They opened in a very rustic manner. The more stately homes had carriage houses. These were like barns. They were completely separate from the home. They offered a place for horses and their carriages to reside. The separate carriage house was for the rich of the time. Their use was practical with a touch of high style. They were all practicality and not a fashion thing
Panels come in horizontal vertical and even chevron angles. Panel styles are available in Georgian which are the raised square panels Tudor and Winsor which have sloping curved tops to each panel and Stuart which have horizontal panels in Craftsman or Mission style. Before putting up your money spend a little time doing due diligence before you buy! Choose carefully and you can have an attractive and functional entrance to your cars domain! Drive around your neighborhood to get a good idea of what fits and what looks best. Search online for comparison pictures. Keep in mind that a street-facing garage makes up of about a third of your homes visible appearance making the garage door design a matter of importance.
And of course the roof should consist of 1 roof vent per 1 car in garage. Vents allow the lumber to breathe and not rot and buckle. If the garage door is over 16 feet in span it is recommended to use laminated veneer lumber as a header which supports the weight of the roof and overhead door. The header is installed above the garage door opening. A ½ horsepower garage door opener with two remote controls is also recommended to make life a bit more convenient instead of opening the overhead door manually.
