Garage doors for a long time were manually operated forcing the driver to stop the car and come out of the cart to open the door and the take some time to close it once they have driven the car into the safety of the garage. All these steps made old type garage doors very inconvenient as compared to the modern garage doors. With the increase in population and the amount of activity that every individual has to take part in many people do not have the time to perform all the above procedures just to be able to pack or leave their packing.
Then came the desire for ease of use. People wanted to make them able to be opened with less fuss. This is the place that garage door openers started. They used to simply lift up on a slide. After that came the rollers. Finally the garage door of today arrived with the electric opener. This allowed ease of use and a fashionable look to the home. Over the years things have changed. The original style of garage door openers have been mostly the same though since the beginning of the garage door. Safety issues have been the main consideration of modern garage doors. Their ability to be safe and still remain useful is very important.
For a garage that is used as an extension to ones home - as a separate and utilized room - a more permanent garage heater that is controlled by a thermostat is the most effective option. A thermostat will allow you to maintain a consistent temperature so that the garage is ready to be used at any time - regardless of the weather.
And of course the roof should consist of 1 roof vent per 1 car in garage. Vents allow the lumber to breathe and not rot and buckle. If the garage door is over 16 feet in span it is recommended to use laminated veneer lumber as a header which supports the weight of the roof and overhead door. The header is installed above the garage door opening. A ½ horsepower garage door opener with two remote controls is also recommended to make life a bit more convenient instead of opening the overhead door manually.
The wire mesh will reinforce the strength of concrete. The garage slab should be poured with 4 inches of concrete by garage builders. It is recommended to wait at least 8 days for the concrete to cure before any garage building process is started on the concrete slab. The slab should be slightly pitched one direction to drain water in the appropriate direction of the designated garage property.
