Now look at the history of these useful doors. The history of garage doors is story as well. The first garage doors were barn doors. They opened in a very rustic manner. The more stately homes had carriage houses. These were like barns. They were completely separate from the home. They offered a place for horses and their carriages to reside. The separate carriage house was for the rich of the time. Their use was practical with a touch of high style. They were all practicality and not a fashion thing
Larger garage spaces or a garage that is used frequently as a work space may warrant a larger more comprehensive garage heater. These units are powered by natural or propane gas and come in the form of standing units or overhead systems that distribute warm air to the entire space. While a gas garage heater is more efficient for larger areas they must be properly vented. Because this garage heater uses gas there are fumes that must be vented to the outside. Further it is wise to have a gas garage heater professionally installed to ensure optimum safety.
And of course the roof should consist of 1 roof vent per 1 car in garage. Vents allow the lumber to breathe and not rot and buckle. If the garage door is over 16 feet in span it is recommended to use laminated veneer lumber as a header which supports the weight of the roof and overhead door. The header is installed above the garage door opening. A ½ horsepower garage door opener with two remote controls is also recommended to make life a bit more convenient instead of opening the overhead door manually.
There is so many different uses people have for their garages today other than parking their cars. Its maybe just for storing old house hold junk or somewhere to work on a do it yourself project. Well whatever it is one thing most garages have in common will be a cold hard and uninviting concrete floor. If the floor is very old it will no doubt be cracked and broken and giving off high amounts of dust that just gets everywhere. On top of this add stains from engine oil leaks most people will be glad if the floor is covered up by a load of junk.
Check the Safety Features: Every once in a while ensure that the safety features of the door are working properly. Modern garage doors are built with cutting edge technology for safety such as alarms and closing/opening features that cannot be breached. If the safety features are not functioning properly the door itself will not work. Check the settings of the door using the manufacturers manual. Routinely Check the Opener: You may be using a remote voice recognition or vision recognition technologies for opening the door. Sometimes when the door refuses to open the problem may lie with the opener. Conduct routine checks to ensure that the opener is working properly especially after returning from a holiday or when you have not used the garage for a long time. If there is a problem then you need to contact a garage door repair service.
